> Product Description
Astroflame Luminaire Canopies stop the passage of fire and smoke, for up to 60 minutes, through luminaire light fittings in a fire rated ceiling.
Without the fire rated canopy in place, fire and smoke will penetrate the recessed light fitting in seconds and spread into the void or room above endangering lives and property.
The Astro Lumi Canopy provides 60 minutes fire protection by completely containing the fire and smoke within the cover. In normal (non-fire) conditions the heat from the light fitting can dissipate through the canopy fabric.
The fire canopies are easy to fit from either side of the ceiling and need no additional supports. They can also be easily removed and replaced for lighting maintenance.
BS 476 Part 23: 1987, Clause 5 - 60 minutes. Assessed for use with suspended ceiling system - 60 minutes. Assembly protected with fire – rated suspended ceiling system – 30 minutes.

> Installation
Fitting Instructions Recessed Luminaire within a suspended ceiling grid.
Remove hood and fittings from packaging, check contents and unfold canopy.
Place the hood over the luminaire, aligning cable entry with lighting cable.
Thread the cable through the cable entry holes.
Secure the hood to the ceiling grid with steel, self tapping screws (min 4mm diameter & 12mm length) by screwing through the hood and into the bulb of the grid at 80mm centres.
Fold the corner tab tightly over the grid section and secure.
The hood is now installed.
Replace the surrounding tiles & finish the installation of the luminaire as recommended by the manufacturer.
All recessed lighting hoods have single & dual cable access. For dual cable access remove the sealing bolt as shown above.

> Maintenance
All interested parties, designer, specifier, main contractor and specialist installers should provide access to allow the fire stopping seals to be regularly inspected and maintained, as well as records kept of such maintenance at minimum periods of 12 months, as required by the Regulatory Reform Order, and repaired if necessary. Reference should be made to ASFP TGD 17 – Code of Practice for the Installation and Inspection of Fire Stopping.
> Competency
It is vital that those entrusted to design or install a fire stopping product have the necessary levels of competence to undertake the task professionally and thoroughly. The level of competency required will be commensurate with the expected complexity of the building. All designers must eliminate, reduce or control foreseeable risks that may arise during installation, construction or maintenance when preparing or modifying designs. Clients should ensure that the principal designer and principal contractor carry out their duties under CDM regulations. The ASFP foundation course in passive fire protection provides essential knowledge as part of demonstrating competency and understanding in this key fire protection specialism.
